JZW Architects is an integrated development and design firm. Since 1999 we have carried projects from site selection and feasibility through entitlement, design, and construction, and today the firm works across multifamily and affordable housing, hospitality, medical, retail, office, and industrial projects in 48 states. We develop our own projects, and we advise the developers who build with us. The owner’s seat is not a metaphor here. We sit in it on our own deals, and that experience shapes the advice and the architecture we deliver on yours.

JZW opened its doors in 1999 with a focus on custom residential work and strong client relationships. Retail and medical office practices followed, and then the resort and hospitality work the firm is known for, including numerous years as the prime architect for St. Regis Deer Valley. The firm grew into one of Utah’s leading affordable housing practices, fluent in LIHTC and the state’s private activity bond allocation, and built a national retail rollout practice serving brands and franchisees across nearly 1,000 locations.

Over the past several years JZW added the other half of the business: an in-house development practice and a development advisory team that puts owner-side thinking to work for the developers we serve. Our clients changed what they asked of us, and we built the firm they were asking for.

The firm operates from five Utah offices and covers a wide footprint, including architecture licenses in 48 of the 50 states. We have worked in all 50 states, from the Canadian border (and Alaska) to the Mexican border. The firm keeps a Cessna 210 in the air so a principal can be on a remote site the week you call.

JZW also served the National Park Service for multiple years as a condition assessment contractor, documenting and assessing leased facilities in parks across the country. That work built the firm’s LiDAR documentation practice and a discipline with existing buildings that carries into every renovation and adaptive reuse project we touch. We have extensive remote site experience and have applied that experience to hospitality and Native American healthcare and community projects, among others.
